Whether you’re looking for a system to pull together existing audio and home theater components or one to help pump up the volume of your next pool party, Sonos has a ZonePlayer model for you. Here’s a quick overview of each one.
ZonePlayer 90
The smallest of the four models, the ZP90 measures a mere 5.5 x 5.5 x 3 in. and weighs only 1.5 lbs. This one connects to your existing audio equipment or home theater system using either analog RCA or digital optical or coax jacks. The RCA jacks can also be used as line-in connectors for your MP3 or DVD player. Read my full ZP90 review.
ZonePlayer 120
Even though the ZP120 is only slightly bigger than the ZP90, don’t let its size fool you. This player sports a 55W per channel, Class-D amplifier, so all you need to add is your favorite pair of speakers. Like the ZP90, it also has analog RCA line-in jacks to connect your MP3 player or DVD. Additionally it has a seperate sub-woofer line-out for even more complex sound. Read my full ZP120 review.
Play:3
Sonos’ newest addition to its product lineup, the Play:3 is a compact, stand-alone system packed with three internal speakers. Whether you place it horizontally or vertically, the Play:3 will automatically detect its position and adjust the sound output accordingly. Like its big brother, the Play:5, you can pair two of these together in the same room for left and right channel audio.
Play:5
Formerly known as the ZonePlayer S5, the Play:5 is the stand-alone system for audiophiles. It boasts five internal speakers (two tweeters, two mid-range and one bass radiator), each with its own digital amplifier. As mentioned above, you can pair two Play:5 models together and separate the sound into left and right channels. This system also includes a headphone jack. Read my full ZonePlayer S5 review.
